Update on Hucklebuck

UPDATE ON HUCKLEBUCK: Hucklebuck went in today for a recheck and xrays. His lungs sound better and his xrays show great improvement in all lung fields – but they still aren’t normal. Although his blood work and other tests were normal, with the improvement in his lungs with medication, his medical issues are most likely related to bacterial or viral infection and not congenital. Dr. Eve gave him a 50/50 chance last week, but based on today’s visit, his chances have greatly improved and are now closer to 75/25. He will continue on the medication and go back in for more xrays in a few weeks.

Hucklebuck’s foster mom, Sarah, is taking such great care of him. From the moment he was diagnosed, although originally thought to be congenital, he has been quarantined just in case it was an infection. Sarah has even spent the night on the bathroom floor with him so he wouldn’t be alone. So much better than being in a cage somewhere since he didn’t require around the clock care. He is not coughing, he is not lethargic, and he’s eating well. He loves to play and he loves to give his foster mom kisses.

The checkups, xrays, and medication are continuing to adding up. Please consider making a donation towards Hucklebuck’s medical care. Thank you.

Hucklebuck's Emergency

Hucklebuck's foster mom has had been taking great care of him during his emergency the past several hours. He's got one collapsed lung and the other one has a very bad infection. This was a very sudden development and his chances aren't great. He is receiving excellent vet care, but it's very expensive.

The best way anyone can help right now is donations to our medical fund to help pay for his medications and care, and to help the other kitties with medical bills. You can use the donate button on the right side, toward the bottom. We accept most major credit/debit cards via PayPal. You can indicate the donations go toward the medical fund in the "Purpose" field on the donation page.

We also encourage you to buy tickets to our current fundraiser, a cash raffle. You don't need to be present to win and you can purchase tickets online from anywhere through Eventbrite on our home page with a credit card, or from one of our volunteers.

Great adoption weekend

What a wonderful adoption weekend – 16 cats/kittens were adopted this weekend. Yes, that’s a lot of adoptions and we are very happy about all the kitties who found homes this weekend, but there are a few of the adoptions that are putting an extra bounce in our step and an even bigger smile on our faces!

The biggest news first: Sterling (woohoo!); Harmony (yippee, happy dance, best news!!!) by a young couple who are ok with the fact that Harmony really loves other kitties and sometimes she wants to snuggle, but mostly she wants to be left alone. And the last of the “Sweetie Pie Kittens” were adopted – it was finally their turn -- Boston Cream Pie (yay!); Pecan Pie (yay!).

Other great adoptions this weekend are Koala; Bertie and Currituck together; Hushpuppy and Daenerys together; Tumbleweed; Rue and Katniss together; Mr. Pibb; and Big Mac, McFlurry, and Sansa together (the couple has been waiting for 5 years to adopt while they finished grad school and moved back from Hawaii – might as well knock out all three adoptions at one time and then be set for 15-20 years!).

So to recap, the following were adopted on July 14/15:

• Sterling
• Harmony
• Boston cream pie
• Pecan pie
• Koala
• Bertie and Currituck together
• Hushpuppy and Daenerys together
• Tumbleweed
• Mr. Pibb
• Rue and Katniss together
• McFlurry, Big Mac, and Sansas together

TNR team members needed

Are you a TNR (trap-neuter-return) advocate?  Want to help feral cats?  We need more people on our TNR Team.  We get a lot of requests for help and with more volunteers, we can help more people.  Sometimes we just need to loan out traps and show the caregiver the basics of TNR, but sometims we also need people who can actually trap for individuals who are not physically able to do the trapping.

Email info@alleycatsandangels.org for more information.  Thank you!

Meet BlueBoy

BlueBoy (male) was taken in after he was brought into Operation Catnip for spay/neuter but was too young and also had a very bad eye infection and ulcerated eye. He received treatment for his eye but it wasn't getting better so it was removed on Friday (July 6). He's recovering nicely but does have to wear the "cone of shame" when he's not snuggling with his foster mom.

BlueBoy is very handsome and sweet and will be available for adoption in a month.
